With just three months to go until launch, Nintendo showed off new gameplay of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom during the latest Nintendo Direct. The highly anticipated sequel launches on May 12, and it will be the first Nintendo-published Switch game to retail for $70. Retailers temporarily stopped taking preorders ahead of the pricing change, but Tears of the Kingdom is now available to preorder again. Nintendo also announced a $130 Collector's Edition and a new Link Amiibo, both of which will be available on May 12, too.
It's unclear at this time what retailers will do for customers who had already locked in a Tears of the Kingdom preorder at the $60 price point. All major retailers were taking preorders since last September. We'd suggest you keep your preorder and wait to see if the retailer reaches out to you to cancel or adjust the price to the new MSRP.
In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you’ll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?
Will Tears of the Kingdom be $70?
Tears of the Kingdom is available for pre-order now and costs $69.99, which you might notice is $10 more than the typical price for a first-party Nintendo game.
The moody trailer shows a thundering and dark land, filled with recognizable monsters from Hyrule. Scenes of devastation fill the world as Hyrule Castle crumbles to the ground and we see a monster who looks like Ganon rising. Also, at the end of the trailer, Zelda issues a mysterious plea: “Please, lend him your power.”
The game will launch with a special collector’s edition as well. It will cost $129.99 and include goodies like a physical version of the game, an art book with concept art, and a Steelbook case.Play game here
