If ever there was a changing of the guard in the El Clasico rivalry, it felt like today was that day as Barcelona’s youthful midfield ran circles around Real Madrid’s aging veterans in a resounding 3-1 win to secure the Supercopa de Espana title.

18-year-old Gavi was the star of the show, with a goal and two assists to secure his first silverware and bury a dagger into Real Madrid hearts. 20-year-old Pedri added a goal himself as the two young Spaniards controlled the dynamic throughout with their pressing and passing alike.

On the other end, aging midfield duo Toni Kroos and Luka Madrid were nowhere to be found, as Kroos especially was entirely off the pace. Both were yanked midway through the second half but it was far too late at that point to change the run of play.

The win for Barcelona breaks a four-match duck for the Blaugrana in this rivalry, in a big moment to secure the Supercopa crown. Real Madrid, defeated in this final and sitting three points back of Barcelona in the La Liga table, have lots of questions to answer as they return to Spain and look ahead to producing a title challenge as well as a Champions League defense.Watch video
